A Weekend in St. Louis

A small portion of the conference hall during worship.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of going to St. Louis with some youth leaders in my church for the National Youth Workers Conference. It was a great time to get away from the craziness in Conyers and spend some quality time learning and hanging out with over 3000 other youth workers from around the country.

We left Friday morning and when we got to St. Louis, we jumped right into the conference. Each day consisted of two general sessions (morning and evening) where we had worship with one or two bands, and a speaker who talked for about an hour. The general sessions also had some pretty good dramas, comedians and movies mixed in. We also had the opportunity to go to a bunch of seminars on everything from dealing with middle schoolers to using Photoshop more effectively. I went to a few on marketing and advertising (since thats what I'll probably be doing in Hawaii) and one on social justice in the postmodern world.

In our off time, we got to go explore St. Louis. It's a pretty cool city, and Don, Andrew and I had a great time goofing off and running around the city. We were going to eat at a Mexican restraunt named Zuzu's one evening, but after waiting for our food for 45 minutes, we just wanted to get our money back. The owners of the place wouldn't give us our food or our money back, so we had a fun little time trying to get to the general session on time (we were about 20 minutes late)!

The Jefferson Memorial Expansion Building with the Gateway Arch in the background. It's a beautiful sight at night!

We also got to go to the Arch and to Busch Stadium, which were both really fun. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit the International Bowling Museum, which I was especially bummed about (I mean seriously, how exciting could a museum devoted to bowling be?!?), but I guess I'll have to hit that next time, if nothing else, just to pick up a shirt.

Basically, it was a great weekend to get refreshed and be around other people who are working towards the same thing.
